Signal System Design Standards

New York City Transit
Brooklyn, NY

As part of a major review of the existing conditions of the signal system of the nation's largest rail transit system, Interactive Elements, as a subcontractor to Parsons Brinckerhoff, prepared a computerized database of the physical characteristics of the signal system of the NYCT Subway. Responsibilities included performing train performance calculations; documenting signal locations in non-compliance with current standards; and providing recommendations and prioritizations for improvement. The firm was also responsible for writing the final signal standards design philosophy document. This project was one of several major new technology signal initiatives that the firm participated in at NYCT (see IEI projects 269, 306, and 525).
